School Board Update: Policy Changes Raise Concerns

The Menomonee Falls School Board isn’t just opting out of NEOLA’s Policy 9130 (Challenges to Library/Media Materials), they’re creating their own replacement policies, numbered 9130.01 and 9130.02.

At first glance, these may seem like routine changes. But here’s the reality: these new policies are essentially repackaged versions of the district’s custom Policies 871 and 872. Over time, those local policies have been repeatedly edited to reflect personal agendas rather than clear, consistent legal standards.

This move raises serious questions about transparency, accountability, and fairness. Instead of adopting the established NEOLA framework, which is designed to provide districts with neutral, legally sound policy guidance, the board is once again choosing a path that leaves too much room for subjective interpretation and political influence.

On August 11, community members spoke out against these actions, voicing their concerns about how these policy changes could impact students, families, and educators in our district. The message was clear: our community wants policies that prioritize fairness, inclusivity, and legal clarity, not policies shaped by personal or political agendas.

This conversation is not over. Staying engaged, informed, and vocal will be critical as these policies move forward.
